Quick Tip: What does Selective Adoption mean for PeopleSoft customers?

No more upgrades! …but you still have to do maintenance.

Oracle has stated that PeopleSoft 9.2 is the last “release” of PeopleSoft in the classic sense; however, don’t confuse this with Oracle stopping development on PeopleSoft. Oracle has stated its commitment to actively developing PeopleSoft through at least 2027 2030.

Oracle has demonstrated this commitment through a very active development cycle and delivery of new functionality.

Selective Adoption (delivered through the PUM) allows each client tremendous flexibility to determine what changes to introduce and when to introduce them.

For example, Lease Administration…

PeopleSoft has released a new version of Lease Administration in PUM instance 24. This is a major update for LA with a major feature being compliance with FASB and IASB rules.

This is a BIG deal!

What happened?

Oracle developed a significant new (revised) module.
The new module was made available via a PUM instance when it was ready.
Clients were (are) able to bring that new functionality into their local instance and implement according to their own timeline.

What didn’t happen?

Clients did not have to wait for a new release.
Clients did not have to perform a disruptive upgrade to get the new module.
Clients did not have to take in additional unwanted changes to get the new module.
Since everything is on a single release, non-compatibility issues were not present.

What about bug fixes?

Patches and Fixes follow the same process.
The PUM can be searched in various ways to identify appropriate fixes to apply to address an issue.
Once a particular fix is selected, any prerequisites will also be identified and selected.
The required items are put into a Change Package that is then applied to the local PeopleSoft instance.

This is a big deal too!

This capability allows IT to be more responsive to issues impacting the functional community.

Many organizations treat a PUM instance similarly to how they viewed bundles before. They feel compelled to apply all of the changes that come with a PUM instance; don’t. Be selective. The selective aspect is crucial and forms the basis for the effort (thus cost) savings. This is particularly true regarding the testing burden that is often placed on the functional users.
