The Oracle SQL Import Utility is a Functional Consultant’s alternative to Excel to CI for loading data.
Using an Excel spreadsheet as a template, within the Oracle SQL Import Wizard functionality, will enable the user to ultimately insert data into PeopleSoft tables with one simple ‘Insert‘ and without having to specify each column and column values.
The Oracle SQL Import Utility is a Functional Consultant’s alternative to Excel to CI for loading data when the number of rows being loaded is prohibitive or impacted by the slower response times is typically associated with Excel to CI.
It is similar in that it typically uses an Excel spreadsheet to stage the data. Where it differs is the data is loaded into a ‘temporary’ database table where it can be further massaged and scrubbed until ready for loading. Then one SQL insert statement is written to load all of the staged data into the permanent PeopleSoft tables.
The process is easily repeatable and cuts typical load times using Excel to CI by around 50%.
