The rumor of Oracle’s UPK (User Productivity Kit) demise has been heard for years. There’s no need to panic. But, the time to begin planning your move is now.
Whether developing learning materials for HCM, FSCM, or any other Oracle product, it’s time for customers, project teams, and training departments to realize that UPK is going away – it is no longer being supported by Oracle and it will be phased out.

Other considerations to keep in mind regarding the use of UPK:
- Developer licenses cost $17,500 – PER USER. This cost does not include the cost of a “view only” license that is needed for learners to view materials created with UPK.
- UPK-delivered content is generic and must be customized to accommodate an organization’s specific business processes.
- Maintaining materials post-project will require a user knowledgeable in using UPK and a Developer license.
Consider more popular and robust tools on the market when creating eLearning courses. Many products, like Articulate Storyline, are very easy and inexpensive to use – enabling training departments to easily make updates to materials going forward. When writing job aids and other guides – consider the easiest tool out there – Microsoft Word and a clean template design.
Don’t wait until it’s too late.
