2022’s third quarter has come and gone, and to celebrate, the Highstreet team gathered for an Employee Engagement Activity. Two nights, and two different events meant that each member of the Highstreet team got to pick an activity of their choice. Option one was a classic team trivia night, and option two saw the return of The Magic of Cody—a magic show back by popular demand. Once their event was chosen, each employee received a $20 food & drink stipend to ensure the evening got off to a great start.
Return of the Magic Show
Back to perform a digital magic show for Highstreet, Cody is a celebrity magician, illusionist, and mentalist. He performs over 500 magic shows each year and was the recipient of the Canadian Magician of the Year Award. He delighted Highstreet during 2021’s Q3 Employee Engagement Activity, and returned again this year.
Impressive as always, Cody engaged with many of Highstreet’s team members. He dazzled Vikas by guessing his secret card twice and announcing the results with a paper cut out of Elvis. Curtis was selected to have his mind read—Cody successfully guessed what time of day Curtis was born. Kathy and James were next on the show and were asked to provide a random number. Cody took her number, 67, and showed that her series of numbers matched up with a pre-printed lottery ticket he had on set. Several others, including Jenn and her family, Bill, Natalie, and David, were chosen to participate in the show. Cody ended his digital event by teaching everyone a card trick. Now equipped to confound our own friends and family, Cody bid us farewell till next time.
Trivia Night, and the Mandala Effect
Everyone loves a good Trivia night, but our evening’s host Ashlynn kicked it up a notch when she included a whole round of Mandala effect questions. If you’re not familiar with the Mandala effect, its when you have to chose the correct option when presented with two versions of a popular quote, character, or logo. For example, Brad, a member of the Highstreet team, nearly broke his computer at the revelation that Forrest Gump’s famous line about life isn’t “…life is like a box of chocolates”, but instead, “…life was like a box of chocolates.” Despite this added challenge, Team Rockstars (which included Donna, Tim, Robb, Elliott, and Natalie) came out on top with 24.5 points. Below are some of the questions that were part of the game:
What’s the amino acid that makes you sleepy in Turkey
Tryptophan
True or False: To escape bullets at a non-lethal range, you can dive 18 inches below water and be safe.
False, you need to dive three feet to be safe from a bullet.
What food was used as cannonballs in the 19th century by a certain naval commander?
Wheels of Cheese
True or False: You can put your hand into molten lead and be ok as long as you dip your hand in water first.
True, this is thanks to the Leidenfrost effect.
What about these Mandala effects? Can you pick out the correct one? Its tougher than it looks!
Answer

Answer
KitKat without the dash (left) is correct
Answer

Why Employee Engagement Activities?
The company culture at Highstreet is an important priority. These employee engagement activities are one of the many ways that executive staff invest in and ensure that their team members each feel heard and vital. Thank you Ashlynn from CourseHorse for hosting Trivia Night and making us all question the basics of our knowledge. Cody, host of one of Highstreet’s most popular events, we were very excited to have back for another wonderful digital magic show. However, Trivia and Magic aren’t the only events Highstreet hosts. Pasta making and painting classes are a few of the other options Highstreet has hosted in the past. Many Thanks to Ashlynn and Cody for the wonderful evenings of entertainment, and thank you to the wonderful Highstreet team members for making a digital company feel so personal and warm.
