By leveraging Oracle’s Financials, Human Capital Management (HCM), and Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), Bakersfield is providing the best services they can for their city. They have chosen Highstreet as their implementation partner due to Highstreet’s expertise and dedication to excellence. Bakersfield is looking to digitally transform their city from their legacy system Naviline. This system lacks core functionality that is hindering Bakersfield in their mission to best serve their residents. It also is not Cloud based, limiting the efficiency and scalability of their current processes. Highstreet helps Bakersfield transform by transitioning them away from their old system and instead forward to Oracle Financials, HCM, and EPM.
Bakersfield, Home of Bakersfield Sound
Located in Kern County, CA the City of Bakersfield is the county seat and home to over 400,000 people.[1] The City of Bakersfield as we know it evolved over several years, starting in 1863 and officially incorporated as a city in 1873. A significant center for energy production and agriculture, industries in the area include natural gas, energy extraction, mining, petroleum refining, food processing and more. Bakersfield excitedly draws tourists in with their fresh produce, brewery trail, and exciting musical events.
Known as the birthplace of the unique country music genre Bakersfield sound, Bakersfield represents its proud musical tradition in the city’s tag-line— “The Sound of Something Better”. The city is even called “Nashville West” in reference to its status as the country music capital of the west coast.
Transformation through Technology
With an aging and struggling legacy system, chronic issues such as lack of integration, manual processes, data integrity, missing functionality, poor financial reporting, and under-utilization of systems are holding Bakersfield back. By contracting with Highstreet to implement Financials, HCM, and EPM, these problems will be resolved. Key functionality, such as electronic time entry and leave management with allow for employees to streamline their day, while centralized data entry and automated integrations will resolve data integrity issues. This heightened integration between all of the city’s systems will eliminate the need for departments to track projects and budgets using spreadsheets, thus allowing for better reporting and more sound business decisions. The previous benefits are only a selection of the myriad improvements Bakersfield will experience due to this project.
Bakersfield has a projected go-live of June 2023 for their Financials and EPM implementation, with their HCM projected to go-live in January of 2024.
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) has helped guide Bakersfield through the RFP process and the project as a whole. They have acted as helpful advisors, assisting Bakersfield in identifying their needs among other things.
Looking Forward
Bakersfield has also opted to use Highstreet’s proprietary services Bridges and Extended Cloud Services (ECS). Bridges, an incredibly powerful and versatile conversion and integration tool, is one of the many reasons Highstreet’s implementations are the smoothest around—both pre and post go-live. Highstreet’s ECS allows you to focus on the business part of your institution while leaving the software maintenance up to us.
Highstreet is excited to help Bakersfield transform and see the benefits Bakersfield experiences from this exciting Cloud project and is thankful to be their trusted implementation partner.
